An Award winning year
Its been a great year for us having won many awards. We were Reserve Winners in the Wales the True Taste Awards for our Chicken Cushion with Saddleback Pork Sausage Meat. There were over 900 products from 300 companies entered this year. Click here to see the Ceremony online. Our prize is a years worth of free publicity and marketing assistance funded by the Welsh Assembly Government. The ceremony was on Thursday 6th November, we enjoyed a fantastic dinner and dance that went on until the early hours at the swanky Vale Hotel Near Cardiff. We were also Reserve Champions at the Royal Welsh Show for our Pork Loin Kiev in July.
In the earlier part of the year we became category champions in the Welsh Meat Promotion competition in Swansea. We beat 36 butchers in the Barbeque section with our Pork Loin Kiev. Overall we gained 6 Gold awards, 6 Silver and also a Bronze.

We were winners in the 2008 Pembrokeshire Tourism “Innovation in E-commerce” category sponsored by I know UK in May. A nice accolade confirming that we are providing a good service. We have since had an increase in the number of mail orders, with a few restaurants dotted around the UK now taking our meat.

Christmas Ordering
There has been talk of a Meat Hygiene Inspectors Strike in December, this could halt production lines in abattoirs for three whole days and disrupt the supply chain. One of our Turkey producers is able to supply turkeys now ready for the freezer. Otherwise, we ask that you submit your order as early as possible, particularly for the premium Welsh Black beef and Saddleback Pork joints in order that we can determine the correct levels of supplies. You can order via the web or telephone for national delivery. The last despatch date for national deliveries is Monday 22nd December for Delivery Tuesday 23rd December. A summary list of the products is available by email.

We have links on our Christmas page for Turkey cooking instructions

Merry Christmas.

July Newsletter

Receiving the awardHi from Andy & Debbie Eastwood at Yerbeston Gate Farm Shop 01834 891637 What a year we have had so far. We have been kept busy here on the farm and at the farm shop. We had all the sows farrowing through the winter and spring months, creating a need for more outdoor paddocks and arks to house them in. Some of the piglets have even tried to make a break for freedom minutes after birth - we had a knock on the door whilst having breakfast and a local passing motorist holding a piglet (a few hours old) saying - does this belong to you? - Needless to say we reunited it with its mother and both were happy.

2008 Category champions
We have also done well in some Welsh competitions. We became category champions in the Welsh Meat Promotion competition in Swansea. We beat 36 butchers in the Barbeque section with our Pork Loin Kiev. Overall we gained 6 Gold awards, 6 Silver and also a Bronze.
We were also winners in the 2008 Pembrokeshire Tourism ~Innovation in E-commerce~ category in May. A nice accolade confirming that we are providing a good service. We have since had an increase in the number of mail orders, with a few restaurants dotted around the UK now taking our meat.

Current Climate
Our prices are becoming more competitive now as other retailers have to increase their prices due to the increase in costs of fuel along with the number of food miles. Because our Beef and Pork only travels from the field to our fridge via the local abattoir, we are able to keep our prices as low as possible.

Barbeque Specials
The weather has not been the kindest this year so far but the Met Office is suggesting that the last week of July should have a high pressure coming in. We are capitalising on our awards and now have a great range of Barbeque ideas including the award winning Pork Loin Kiev and Special Packs from £5.

Home Bred Saddle Back Pigs
Our Free range Saddleback Pigs are growing well, we have over a 100 pigs on the farm – we’ve been converting those into delicious Pork Joints and other succulent cuts including Sausages (made by Debbie) and Bacon or Gammons (cured by Andy). Half Pigs are available but we suggest that you try a few Chops and other joints first as these traditional breeds have a little more fat cover than the fast reared commercial indoor pink pigs. Our dry cured bacon is growing in popularity too the Saddleback combined with salt and brown sugar makes great flavoured breakfast treat. We also have created a pancetta from the belly with black pepper and herbs.

Pembrokeshire Lamb
We have found a great lamb producer Mr. Thomas from Paternoster farm just south of Pembrokeshire. He has a variety of different breeds producing tender lambs all year round. The lambs graze the lush pastures overlooking the Cleddau estuary just south of Pembroke. We now have good sized lambs from James discounted to 39.50 per half lamb See Special Meat Packs section.

Homemade Pies Pasties and Quiches
We have now employed two extra people at the farm shop – a full time butcher and a part time assistant, as Andy has started producing own recipe pies, pasties and quiches. Having the extra staff has helped us to get on with updating our website and getting the newsletter out at last.
